VOLUNTEERING

James Bay Market Society has striven to promote the benefits of a local market since opening in 1995 on a $5,000 budget.

James Bay Market Society has striven to promote the benefits of a local market since opening in 1995 on a $5,000 budget. The community seed exchange is even older — this year the James Bay Market Society will celebrate the 20th year of Seedy Saturday, Feb. 16, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Victoria Conference Centre. The event now includes small businesses, local nurseries, chef demonstrations, kids' activities and free talks — a wonderful way to learn more about seed diversity, food security and protecting our environment. To make this event a success, many volunteers are needed, including greeters, audio-visual helpers and session volunteers. Most shifts are 3.5 hours; a one-hour orientation meeting is required on Feb. 14 or 15. Call 250-381-5323.
