The Ministry of Transportation has announced a 24-hour closure of Highway 4 at Kennedy Hill to allow for permanent slope repair near the site of a recent rock slide.
The closure of the highway, which links the Tofino/Ucluelet area to the rest of the Island, will be in place from 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, to 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23. A temporary bridge, installed in late January, will be removed and the slope repaired.
The bridge was installed after planned blasting in the area caused a rockfall that damaged the road. The blasting was part of the $38.1-million Kennedy Hill Safety Improvement Project, which involves widening and straightening a 1.5-kilometre section of the highway.
The highway was shut down for several days as a result.
The project is scheduled for completion this summer.
