475 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Island Health, two additional deaths

There were 475 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and two deaths reported in Island Health on Friday.

B.C. recorded a total of 3,144 new cases on Friday, bringing the number of known active cases to 33,184. Island Health has 3,906 known active cases.

Across B.C., 349 people were in hospital on Friday, 93 of them in intensive care. Fifty-nine people were in hospital in Island Health, including 13 in intensive care.

Outbreaks are ongoing at 38 facilities, mostly in long-term care homes but also at five hospitals, including Victoria General Hospital.

There are outbreaks at seven Island care homes: Amica Douglas House, Aberdeen Hospital, Eden Gardens, Glenwarren Lodge, Kiwanis Village Lodge, Selkirk Seniors Village and Clover Point Care.

Nine more people have died from the illness, for a total of 2,439 COVID-related deaths during the pandemic. Of those, 147 have been in Island Health.

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, 276,875 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in B.C.
