Scenes of a terrified man being chased through Ross Bay Cemetery by a knife-wielding person in a unicorn mask prompted a call to Victoria police Sunday night.
It was a rainy evening in Fairfield, around 7 p.m., when a couple walking along the Dallas Road waterfront saw the troubling and confusing incident unfolding in the cemetery.
“Often, our officers respond to calls which are not quite what they are made out to be. Sometimes, unfortunately, we get calls which can be described as fanciful at best,” said Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko. “In this case, it was exactly as it was described.”
Police arrived and found a man dressed as the mythical equine creature who did indeed have a large hunting knife in hand, along with another man who was trying to elude the unicorn. Officers approached with caution and issued commands for the unicorn-masked man to drop the weapon. He complied.
The two men, in their early 30s, told police they were trying to make a funny video, Osoko said.
They apologized and were sent on their way.
“With the unicorn unmasked, no charges were laid, no unicorn tears were collected and all was once again tranquil on the shores of Ross Bay,” Osoko quipped.
