Arson suspect to appear in court over Friday Harbor fires

Police in the San Juan Island town of Friday Harbour, Washington have arrested a suspect in the arson fires that destroyed four buildings and several businesses in the community’s historic downtown.

Police in the San Juan Island town of Friday Harbor, Washington, have arrested a suspect in the arson fires that destroyed four buildings and several businesses in the community’s historic downtown.

According to the San Juan Islander newspaper, Dwight Henline, 33, of Friday Harbor was arrested Saturday and is set to appear in court on Wednesday.

Investigators determined the April 7 fire that caused $10 million in damage and destroyed buildings dating back to the 1800s was deliberately set. No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported at 3:45 a.m.

According to the Islander, Henline is on probation for an impaired-driving charge stemming from a July 2021 incident when he crashed a vehicle into a house where two people were sleeping.
