A blaze at an abandoned building in Victoria early Friday was likely a case of arson, a fire investigator says.
Victoria firefighters arrived at the fire at 1186 Yates St. around midnight after someone called 911.
The fire was contained to the building’s exterior door frame because of the fast response, firefighter Bre MacDonald said. “Our guys saved it,” MacDonald said.
The fire was just steps from the Victoria Fire Department’s No. 1 Fire Hall.
Fire investigator Capt. Steve Meikle’s report said a can of camping fuel was used to set the fire, MacDonald said.
The estimated damage to the building is about $1,000. No one was in the building at the time.
About 14 firefighters and five trucks responded to the blaze.
