B.C.’s 40th general election is Tuesday, and all parties and candidates are encouraging you to vote. Here’s how to do it.

When can I vote?

• Voting locations are open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. across Greater Victoria.

Who can vote?

• You must be 18 years or older, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of B.C. for at least six months.

Where do I go?

• If you received a yellow “Where to Vote” card from Elections B.C. in the mail, it lists your voting place. Take it with you when you vote.

• If you didn’t get one, or lost it, you can find a full list of voting sites at: elections.bc.ca or by calling 1-800-661-8683.

• There’s also an Elections B.C. app for your smartphone or tablet to help find the closest site.

What do I need to bring?

• One of these: A driver’s licence, B.C. Identification Card, Certificate of Indian Status or B.C. Services Card.

• If you don’t have one of those, you can bring two of the following documents (both need to have your name, and one has to also have your address): a utility bill (such as an electricity bill), health card, social insurance card, old age security identification card, veterans card, military identification, passport, citizenship document, property-tax assessment, government cheque stub, employment insurance statement, old age security and Canada Pension Plan statements, university transcripts or student cards, bank statements, mortgage statements, public transit pass, prescription medicine container or blank cheque.

• You can also get someone with the necessary ID, including a family member, to legally vouch for you at the voting site.

Who won?

• Visit us back here tonight for election results; read the print edition Wednesday for a detailed report.
