Rising fuel prices have prompted B.C. Ferries to bring in a fuel surcharge averaging one per cent starting March 1.
For sailings between Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver — the most popular routes — the fuel surcharge will mean an additional 15 cents for an adult and 55 cents for a vehicle.
On inter-island routes, the new rate will mean another five cents for an adult and 20 cents for a vehicle.
For the Port Hardy-Prince Rupert, Prince Rupert-Haida Gwaii and Port Hardy-Central Coast routes, the current 1.5 per cent fuel rebate will be removed, B.C. Ferries said.
Fuel surcharges and rebates have fluctuated over time depending on market conditions. They are regulated under a process established by the B.C. Ferries Commissioner.
