Mill Bay ferry runs overnight Monday due to Malahat shutdown

With the Malahat closed, B.C. Ferries says it will run the Brentwood Bay-Mill Bay route through the night.

The Malahat is closed in both directions due to flooding on the road. Emcon Services, which provides road maintenance on the South Island, said Monday afternoon that the stability of the highway could not be confirmed due to the amount of water still on the road.

Drive B.C. said an update was not expected until 8 a.m. Tuesday.

B.C. Ferries said traffic on Brentwood Bay-Mill Bay route had increased as a result. The ferry is one of a handful of routes available when the Malahat is closed.

The MV Klitsa is scheduled to operate throughout the night:

Departing Brentwood Bay

  • 7:30 p.m.
  • 8:40 p.m.
  • 9:50 p.m.
  • 11 p.m.
  • 2:25 a.m.
  • 3:35 a.m.
  • 4:45 a.m.
  • 5:55 a.m.

Departing Mill Bay

  • 8:05 p.m.
  • 9:15 p.m.
  • 10:25 p.m.
  • 11:35 p.m.
  • 3 a.m.
  • 4:10 a.m.
  • 5:20 a.m.
  • 6:30 a.m.

Regular scheduled service will resume on Tuesday with the 7:30 a.m. sailing departing Brentwood Bay.

B.C. Transit said two Saanich Peninsula routes — the 75 and 83 — would be on a detour Monday night due to ferry traffic:

  • 75 Northbound — from Wallace Drive, continuing on Wallace Drive back to regular route.
  • 75 Southbound — from Wallace Drive, continuing on Wallace Drive back to regular route.
  • 83 Northbound — from West Saanich, right Wallace, left Stelly’s, right Wallace continuing on Wallace Drive back to regular route.
  • 83 Southbound — left Stelly’s, right Wallace, left West Saanich back to regular route.
