If you don’t mind camping when it’s still chilly outside, you might want to book your spring spot now.
Starting Tuesday, B.C.’s Discover Camping reservation system will take bookings for B.C. Parks-run sites four months in advance instead of the previous two months.
Reservations opened at 7 a.m. PT for those want to camp on or before May 3. Bookings for the busy May long weekend will be up for grabs on Jan. 19.
Reservations for the popular Bowron Lake canoe circuit in Bowron Lake Provincial Park opened earlier on Dec. 1.
There are more than 10,000 reservable slots for day-use and overnight accommodations available, ranging from day-use passes, parking permits, campsite permits, backcountry permits, backcountry cabins, and a yurt — and more campgrounds are being added for the 2023 season.
New campgrounds include Gwillim Lake Park near Chetwynd, Yahk Park near the Kingsgate border crossing, and Allison Lake Park near Princeton.
Reservations for Kinney Lake campground in Mount Robson Provincial Park will open at 7 a.m. PT on Feb. 1, but the rest of the 23-kilometre Berg Lake trail remains closed for the 2023 season following damage by extreme weather in 2021.
