B.C. Transit says it has pulled 22 buses made by Vicinity Motor Corp. from service because of a possible problem with an unspecified bus part.

The transit company is warning that some routes in Greater Victoria may be cancelled as a result over the next few days.

“In alignment with industry safety standards, B.C. Transit has removed 22 Vicinity buses from service out of an abundance of caution,” B.C. Transit said in a statement. “Further investigation is required to verify the condition and scope of the potential issue.”

The statement said specialized equipment is required to test the buses, which represent about seven per cent of the local fleet.

Riders are being advised to check the B.C. Transit website, the NextRide trip planner or the Transit app for updates, or to sign up for route-specific alerts that will be emailed to them

“Proactive customer advisories have been issued in an effort to allow B.C. Transit customers to plan their travel, but the organization has been able to resource enough buses to meet nearly all scheduled service,” B.C.Transit said in a statement. “However, we are anticipating some trip cancellations may be necessary.”
