Vaccination is the pathway to safe travel and the resumption of important social connections, B.C.’s top doctor said Wednesday as the province reported 113 new COVID cases, including four in Island Health.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry urged British Columbians to get vaccinated and “encourage everyone around us to do the same.”
On Wednesday, there were 1,454 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, of whom 134 were hospitalized, including 41 in intensive or critical care.
The Island Health COVID dashboard on Tuesday showed 56 active cases on the Island — 41 in the south, seven in the central region and eight in the north.
Four new COVID-19 related deaths were reported on Wednesday, for a total of 1,738 deaths in B.C., including 41 in Island Health.
B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix reported that 76 per cent of all adults in B.C. have had a first dose of a COVID vaccine.
The province said Wednesday its immunization totals are amongst the highest in the world for first doses.
Henry has said she is aiming for a 100 per cent vaccination rate, or failing that, a minimum of 85 to 90 per cent.
“Getting fully immunized is the best way for us to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us,” said Henry.
