An advisory in place since Nov. 20 for blue-green algae at Elk Lake has been lifted.
The extended absence of blue-green scum associated with the algae is one of the indicators that the lengthy bloom has ended.
The Capital Regional District advises users of Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park to keep an eye out for a blue-green sheen on the water. Algae blooms can occur at any time, the CRD said.
Ingesting water that contains blue-green algae can cause lethal liver damage in dogs, and headaches and abdominal pain in humans.
