Creston RCMP say a body found Wednesday in Crawford Creek is believed to be that of former Victoria man Alvin Dunic.
Dunic, a 57-year-old elementary school teacher in the West Kootenay community of Crawford Bay, was last seen on May 29. He had left the school in search of a good place near the creek to work on a class project, but did not return as expected at 12:30 p.m.
Dunic’s car was found at the Crawford Creek trailhead. The community is about 75 kilometres north of Creston.
The search for him included volunteers organized by the Kootenay Lake school district and Crawford Bay Elementary-Secondary School.
His family is getting support from Creston RCMP, which is helping the B.C. Coroners Service in its investigation.
