The body of a missing Beecher Bay woman was found Friday, more than a week after she went missing.
RCMP said foul play was not suspected in the death of Raymona Peter, who was last seen alive by her father on the morning of Sept. 30.
Friends, family and neighbours of Peter had been scouring the area where she was last seen in Sc’ianew First Nation, hoping to find a clue to her whereabouts.
Her dad, Rick Peter, watched her walk by his bedroom window on Sept. 30, thinking she was going out to look for her lost cellphone.
Raymona, who was trying to get into treatment for addiction, had just gotten off the phone with a counsellor, her dad said, and she was hopeful that she could start rehab soon.
“She was in really high spirits,” Rick Peter said.
When Raymona didn’t return that afternoon, he became worried and started searching for her in dense bushes near his property with the help of neighbours.
After there had been no sign of his daughter for 24 hours, he reported her missing to police.
RCMP and Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue volunteer crews started a ground search the day after Raymona was last seen. Search dogs and marine crews were also brought in to look for any sign of the missing woman.
The search was suspended two days later after a thorough scouring of the area.
