Those planning to travel with B.C. Ferries over the final long weekend of the summer are being advised to book ahead and arrive early at the terminals.

According to the ferry corporation, traffic is traditionally heaviest heading to Vancouver Island on Thursday and Friday evenings ahead of the Labour Day long weekend, while the busiest times for the return trip to the mainland are typically Monday and Tuesday morning.

B.C. Ferries recommends booking in advance, saying those who choose not to reserve may have to endure a sailing wait or two. If reservations are sold out, the best option is to travel during less-busy times, it says.

Travellers with bookings are advised to arrive at the terminal 45-60 minutes before the scheduled departure. Walk-on passengers should arrive 45 minutes before a scheduled departure.

Masks are still mandatory in all indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, on the vessels and at terminals for customers 12 years and older.
