A full-time faculty member at Camosun College has been removed from teaching pending completion of an investigation into a complaint by a student.
The college issued a statement about the situation on Thursday.
The complaint involves a trip to the Philippines.
Joan Yates, vice-president of student experience, said she does not know what the connection is between the complaint and the trip.
“We’re not in the loop,” she said, a deliberate step required to maintain the integrity of the investigation by an outside agency.
“We hope for a wrap-up very soon,” she said. “Certainly by year-end.”
Yates said she could not confirm that the nursing program is involved, nor the gender of the faculty member. She did not comment on when the teacher stopped teaching or whether the trip was part of the study program.
Camosun received the complaint in August and began investigating, she said.
“We have taken that complaint seriously and began an investigation which is being conducted by an external party in order to ensure an unbiased and fair process to all those involve,” said the statement from the college.
“The investigation needs to be conducted with a high level of respect for the integrity of the process and for the privacy of all those involved including our students and because of this we cannot comment further.”
