City of Victoria issues callout for summer-banner artists

The successful local digital artist or designer will have their designs displayed on banners in up to 400 locations in the downtown core and James Bay for the 2023 and 2024 summers.

The City of Victoria is looking for artists who want to showcase their work through the city’s summer banner program.

The successful local digital artist or designer will have their designs displayed on banners in up to 400 locations in the downtown core and James Bay for the 2023 and 2024 summers.

Applicants must from the capital region, including the southern Gulf Islands and First Nations.

The artist will receive a fee of $2,000.

Applications can be emailed to [email protected] by 4 p.m. Jan. 26. Selected artists will be contacted in early February.

The city is hosting an online information session at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 12 on the program, which has been running since 1970.

The 2021/2022 summer banners were designed by local Coast Salish artist Dylan Thomas in collaboration with fellow Salish artists Margaret August and lessLIE.
