The Capital Regional District is warning people it could get stinky around the sewage treatment plant on Wednesday.
An odour advisory has been issued for the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant in Esquimalt from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the facility undergoes maintenance.
“The maintenance work is likely to generate intermittent odours near the facility, including areas immediately surrounding the plant and parts of Esquimalt during the scheduled maintenance,” the CRD said in a statement.
At McLoughlin Point, maintenance often involves lifting lids on the primary and secondary treatment tanks to clean the plate-settlers, which help to separate some of the solids from liquids in the early stages of sewage treatment.
The CRD said staff and facility contractors will make every effort to limit the smell as work proceeds.
“We appreciate your patience while we complete this necessary maintenance,” the statement said.
