CNN broadcaster Michaela Pereira, who got her start at CHEK-TV, will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from Thompson Rivers University next month. The degree recognizes Pereira’s philanthropy, identity struggle as an adopted child and advocacy for underprivileged youth.
The co-host of CNN’s morning show New Day has won several Emmy Awards. Hired by CHEK in 1994 while working as a medical receptionist, she was described as “a natural” by CHEK elder statesman Gordie Tupper. Pereira worked at the station for four years, eventually landing in Los Angeles for nine years, anchoring at KTLA.
