The container ship Hanjin Vienna is on its way to Vancouver after leaving Constance Bank off Victoria.

It weighed anchor about 10 a.m. today, and by late morning, the 279-metre-long vessel was northwest of San Juan Island. The ship will be at port for a brief stop to stock up on supplies and possibly change over some crew members.

The ship, with its 24 crewmen, was stranded off Victoria amid the financial collapse of Korea’s Hanjin Shipping. It was formally detained in Vancouver but permitted to leave on Sept. 1 for Constance Bank to wait for some kind of resolution.

It was parked for more than three weeks at Constance Bank.

Robert Lewis-Manning, president of the Chamber of Shipping in Vancouver, has spoken to the ship’s German-based owner. Hanjin leases some of its vessels.

“I am very confident that the company is looking out for the welfare of the crew.”
