A 21-year-old man was in custody after an attempted robbery of a Victoria convenience store.

Victoria police were alerted after a man holding a knife entered the store, on Cook Street near Pandora Avenue, about 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The clerk tried to convince the man to leave, then fled knowing the intruder couldn’t open the till or safe without him.

The man was gone by the time police arrived, but they knew what he looked like from checking the store’s surveillance video. A suspect was located a block from the store. A knife was recovered.
