The Capital Regional District is again warning residents around the McLoughlin Wastewater Treatment Plant and parts of Esquimalt that unpleasant odours are likely as the plant undergoes scheduled maintenance next week.
“CRD staff and facility contractors are making every effort to limit the impacts experienced by the community and will continue to monitor this issue as work proceeds over the course of the week. We appreciate your patience while we complete this necessary maintenance,” the CRD said in a statement.
The maintenance work is set for Sept. 11 to 14. A similar odour warning was issued less than two weeks ago.
Maintenance at the treatment plant often involves lifting lids on the primary and secondary treatment tanks to clean the plate-settlers, which help to separate some of the solids from liquids in the early stages of sewage treatment.
