The Capital Regional District is asking the public to weigh in on the idea of widening sections of the Galloping Goose and Lochside regional trails, along with adding lights.

The section being considered on the Galloping Goose is a 6.6-kilometre stretch between the Selkirk Trestle and Grange Road adjacent to McKenzie Avenue, while the Lochside section is also a 6.6-km stretch, between the Switch Bridge and McKenzie/Borden streets.

The CRD’s Regional Trails Management Plan approved in 2016 mentions the need to look at options for widening trails, and separating them to improve safety for various users on the busiest sections of the Galloping Goose and Lochside.

The trails attract about three million visitors a year and numbers are expected to climb.

People are invited to fill out a survey about the proposals for the trails.

The survey is open until midnight on June 13 and is online at crd.bc.ca/trailsproject.

There will also be two virtual open houses, on June 4 from 7 to 8 p.m. and on June 7 from noon to 1 p.m.

Advance registration is required via crd.bc.ca.
