Crystal Pool and fitness facilities will close early for annual maintenance, beginning Nov. 23 and reopening on Dec. 30.
The pool has been closed due to a mechanical issue since Nov. 12 while the city awaited a part necessary for repairs. Fitness facilities remained open during the pool closure.
The pool and fitness facilities were scheduled to close Dec. 2 to 29 for annual maintenance, and the city said it decided Friday to begin the closure early.
Aquatic and fitness programs will be cancelled with pro-rated refunds issued. Registered programs will be rescheduled where possible.
The front desk will remain open for registrations Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on Dec. 6, 9 and 22- 29, when the facility will be fully closed. The front desk will also open at 7 a.m. on Nov. 27 for swimming program registration and 7 a.m. on Dec. 4 for general and skating program registration.
During the closure, memberships will be accepted at other municipal recreation centres in Saanich, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, West Shore, Sooke and North Saanich and the downtown YMCA.
The city is expected to hold a referendum in February on borrowing $168.9 million to replace the pool, which is more than 50 years old.
City residents will also be asked to weigh in on which of two sites in Central Park they favour.
