Campbell River firefighters carried a dog from a burning house on Friday and treated it with oxygen equipment designed for pets.
The equipment is carried on the department’s trucks, said Deputy Chief Thomas Doherty.
He said the call about the fire came in about 12:25 p.m. and the dog was found in a back room.
No human residents were at home.
“The dog was taken to a local vet and was breathing on its own when it Ieft our hands,” Doherty said.
The fire was contained to one room, he said.
