Traffic downtown was disrupted Monday afternoon as climate change protesters marched to the legislature.

The Extinction Rebellion group took over one southbound lane of Douglas Street near Finlayson, Victoria police said around 1:30 p.m.

Local Extinction Rebellion members joined members from Vancouver who were on a four-day walk to the legislature building to call on the provincial and federal governments to take swift action to combat climate change.

There were several protests planned in downtown Victoria Monda, primarily at the legislature, prompting Victoria police to warns and anyone trying to get in or out of downtown to be prepared for traffic disruptions.
