B.C. Transit is warning bus riders in the Comox Valley that a shortage of drivers may cause service disruptions.

It said the labour shortage is expected to last a week and could result in altered schedules and trips cancelled on short notice.

“B.C. Transit understands the impact these disruptions have on riders and does its best to notify customers immediately,” the company said in a statement Friday.

B.C. Transit said trip-cancellation alerts will be issued on its website. Customers are encouraged to use NextRide and the Transit App.

The Comox Valley Transit System, PWTransit, is trying to hire more drivers.

A job as a spare transit driver for PWTransit pays $21.18 to $28.48 an hour and has several requirements, including a valid Class 1 or 2 driver’s license with air-brake endorsement, clear criminal record and drug and alcohol screening.
