Saanich is urging drivers to avoid cutting through smaller residential streets while work is underway on Sinclair Road near the University of Victoria.

The upgrade work began in the summer and is expected to continue through early 2026.

The district is suggesting that drivers use major or collector roads as an alternative, including Cedar Hill Cross Road, Hobbs Street between Sinclair and Arbutus Road, Finnerty Road, Arbutus Road and Cadboro Bay Road — although Cadboro Bay will have periodic construction closures.

The district said to expect congestion and some traffic disruptions.

Access will be maintained to homes, businesses and Gyro Park throughout construction.

The project will include improved sidewalks and crosswalks, improved bus stop areas, protected bike lanes and a roundabout at Sinclair and Cadboro Bay roads.

Also coming are 300 metres of sewer replacement, 500 metres of storm-drain replacement and 1,100 metres of water-main replacement.

The first phase of the project will focus on underground work, while the second includes refurbishing the roadway and the third will include the sidewalks and bike lanes, along with landscaping.
