A 4.0-magnitude offshore earthquake hit 288 kilometres southwest of Tofino and 435 km west of Victoria at 5:10 a.m. Thursday.
Preliminary investigation indicates it was “very shallow” at about one kilometre deep, said Geological Survey of Canada research scientist Honn Kao.
Earthquakes Canada had received two reports of the earthquake being felt as of 11:30 a.m., both in the Vancouver area.
There were no reports of damage, and none would be expected, the agency said, and no tsunami was expected.
