Elizabeth May admired for hard work, not dress sense

The good news, says federal Green party leader Elizabeth May, is that she won the title of hardest-working MP and tied with two others for best constituency MP in the 21st annual Hill Times Political Savvy Survey.

Elizabeth May has been voted in a Hill Times poll as hardest-working MP Ñ and third worst dressed woman MP.

The good news, says federal Green party leader Elizabeth May, is that she won the title of hardest-working MP and tied with two others for best constituency MP in the 21st annual Hill Times Political Savvy Survey.

The bad news?

She also placed third in the worst-dressed female MP category, after Calgary Centre MP Joan Crockatt and Vancouver East MP Libby Davies.

But the Saanich-Gulf Islands MP says she’s OK with that.

“If I get chosen as hardest-working MP and best constituency MP and if what goes along with that is that I’m the third-worst-dressed woman MP, I really don’t think the voters of Saanich-Gulf Islands care.

“They didn’t elect me to be a fashion plate. They elected me to work hard and be a good constituency MP and that’s what I’m going to do.”

May says she nabbed the hardest-working MP title with 12 per cent of the vote, edging out Conservative MP Jason Kenney at 11 per cent.

In the best constituency MP category, May says she tied for first place with NDP MP Linda Duncan and Conservative MP Cheryl Gallant.

The poll was conducted by Forum Research, according to Hill Times editor Kate Malloy. The complete survey results were not immediately available.
