A West Shore RCMP officer sustained minor injuries while arresting an alleged shoplifter at a store.

Police received a report about noon on Feb. 24 that a man had stolen from a business in the 800-block of Langford Parkway. The person making the report said the man refused to leave, and was yelling and screaming at staff.

An officer arrived as staff was escorting the suspect out. When the man was told he was being arrested, he became violent with the officer, police said.

One of the staff members stepped in to help.

“The West Shore RCMP would like to thank the staff member for assisting the officer in this high-stress situation,” said Const. Meghan Groulx. “Suspects can be unpredictable and the assistance and bravery shown by this employee helped the officer get this offender under control.”

The suspect later assaulted an officer while in West Shore RCMP cells.

William Bradshaw, 35, was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and theft.
