The Everett Police Department’s major crimes unit is investigating after what appears to be a human foot was found on Jetty Island in Washington state.
The Jetty Island foot, which was inside a boot, was discovered by beachgoers on the south end of the island at about 2 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
Police have not yet established a timeline for how long the foot was there, or determined why it ended up in the area.
Over a dozen feet have washed up on B.C. shores since 2007. The B.C. Coroners Service has said none of the cases involved foul play.
Ten of the feet were determined to belong to seven people who died due to accident or suicide, while another was linked to a man who had gone missing when his boat overturned near Port Moody 25 years earlier.
The most recent B.C. case came on May 6, 2018, when a foot inside a hiking boot was found wedged in a logjam at Gabriola Island.
