A Ferris wheel will return to Centennial Square this December for the Lights of Wonder.

The annual winter event, sponsored by the Downtown Victoria Business Association, sees the square turned into a winter wonderland for the holiday season.

The association previously installed a Ferris wheel in Centennial Square over the holiday season from 2012 to 2016.

“Our team is thrilled to bring back an old favourite, the Ferris wheel, as part of Lights of Wonder this year,” said association chief executive Jeff Bray.

Riding the Ferris wheel will be free, though charitable donations will be accepted on behalf of local non-profit organizations.

It will be on site between Dec. 20-31, starting at 4 p.m. each day.

The Lights of Wonder, a tradition that began in 2019, will start this year on Nov. 30, lighting up the square after the Santa Claus parade.

Billed as Greater Victoria’s largest free light display, the Lights of Wonder features themed light exhibits, interactive light tunnels, free entertainment and warm refreshments.

The DVBA is looking for cultural groups or musical entertainers to perform onstage on various days throughout December.

The application to perform can be completed online at dvba.ca/perform.
