A Nanaimo medical office building was destroyed in a fire Sunday morning.
About 16 firefighters from four crews responded to the clinic at 104th Street and Victoria Road around 7:30 a.m. to find the building’s attic on fire and heavy smoke, said Deputy Chief Geoff Whiting.
There were concerns about structural integrity as crews battled the blaze from outside, he said, but they were able to finish extinguishing the fire from the interior.
Nobody was inside when the fire started. The building suffered extensive fire and water damage and the roof was “essentially destroyed,” he said.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Fire investigators will be at the scene Monday trying to determine how it started, Whiting said.
