A recreational vehicle that served as a home was destroyed by fire Friday.
View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said the fire started about 11:55 a.m. near Six Mile Road and the Island Highway, in front of Integra Tire.
“The owner was doing some self-repairs, started the vehicle and a fire started in the engine compartment,” Hurst said. “It quickly spread to the driver/passenger area and engulfed the front end of the RV.”
The owner tried to put the fire out himself with an extinguisher but was unsuccessful. No one was injured.
“That unfortunately was their primary residence,” Hurst said of the damaged vehicle. “They had taken it to the shop to try and get some repairs.”
