Some evacuation alerts in the vicinity of the Mount Hayes wildfire near Ladysmith have been lifted, said Coastal Fire Centre information officer Gordon Robinson.
Alerts have ended for properties in North Oyster, but remain for the Fortis B.C. liquefied natural gas plant and Bush Creek Fish Hatchery, he said.
Crews continue to battle the fire which is now measured at 61.5 hectares, down from 73 due to more accurate mapping.
Meanwhile, a small wildfire of about 30 square feet near Port Alberni was quickly extinguished Wednesday morning.
Reports of the fire, off the Alberni Highway near Roger Creek, came in just before 7 a.m.
The Port Alberni Fire Department and an initial-attack crew sent in by the Coastal Fire Centre had the blaze put out within a few hours.
The fire is suspected to be human caused, Robinson said.
