The Coastal Fire Centre has identified a new spot fire on Vancouver Island after an early morning lightning storm Tuesday.
The fire, spotted just south of Sayward, was one of eight new spot fires to emerge after the storm.
All the fires are small and none are expected to grow or challenge firefighting efforts, according to the province.
Firefighting crews have been assigned to the incidents and are working to get to the fires or are already engaged with them.
The fire near Sayward was tackled by a five-person firefighting crew.
Other fires included two in the Fraser Valley, four in the Bella Coola Valley region and one on the Sunshine Coast.
The Coastal Fire Centre says it will continue helicopter and foot patrols over the next several days to monitor for any additional fires sparked by lightning.
