A five-car motor vehicle crash on the Trans Canada Highway near the Portage Inlet in Saanich is significantly affecting westbound traffic flow on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Acting Staff Sgt. Aaron Thompson of Saanich police said the multi-vehicle crash happened between the McKenzie Avenue and Helmcken road exits.

“Fortunately, there are no significant injuries to report,” he said in a statement.

Thompson encouraged motorists to use alternate routes while the Saanich police Traffic Safety Unit investigates.

B.C. Transit buses are being rerouted and drivers “are working hard to get passengers to their destinations,” he said.

Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, responded to the crash around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
