A float plane remained in the water near Honeymoon Bay on Cowichan Lake Friday afternoon after crashing in the early afternoon.
According to B.C. RCMP, the pilot was the only one aboard the plane and escaped with minor injuries.
B.C. Emergency Health Services received a call at 1:05 p.m. that the float plane had crashed. The pilot was brought ashore by boat and paramedics transported the patient in stable condition to hospital.
The investigation is still in the preliminary stages and it may take some time to determine the cause of the crash, said Sgt. Chris Manseau, RCMP media relations officer.
He said the pilot is co-operating with investigators.
RCMP investigators have been in contact with the Transportation Safety Board, which is aware of the crash and will not be attending.
The plane remains submerged in Cowichan Lake until it can be safely removed. Police asked those in the area to avoid the vicinity of the crash.
