Travel along the west coast of Vancouver Island could be difficult due to near-zero visibility brought on by a thick blanket of fog for much of Saturday.

Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for West Vancouver Island near coastal areas due to a long-lasting fog event.

“Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations,” it said in an alert.

The heavy fog over West Vancouver Island began on Friday evening and is expected to continue until Saturday afternoon but should begin breaking up near noon, Environment Canada said.
