Holistic health guru Deepak Chopra coming to Victoria

Alternative medicine advocate and author Dr. Deepak Chopra will speak at the University of Victoria’s Farquhar Auditorium on Oct. 10.

Chopra is one of the best known and wealthiest people in the holistic medicine movement. Time magazine deemed Chopra one of the top 100 heroes and icons of the century, describing him as “the poet-prophet of alternative medicine.”

He took a medical degree in India before immigrating to the U.S. 45 years ago. He was chief of staff at New England Memorial Hospital before leaving in 1985 to found the Maharishi Ayurveda Health Centre, followed by the Chopra Centre for Wellbeing.

Chopra found a huge audience after appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He has sold millions of copies of his 80 books.

Limited tickets went on sale Monday for 48 hours via iamgenie.org. The pre-sale tickets range in price from $59 to $189. VIP tickets include a one-hour reception with Chopra before the show, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Regular tickets (at the same prices) go on sale through Farquhar Auditorium starting Thurday at 9:30 a.m. These tickets can be purchased at tickets.uvic.ca, 250-721-8480 or at the UVic ticket centre in the University Centre Building.
