Incident with armed person in downtown Victoria resolved after negotiation

Police said just before 1:30 a.m. that an individual reported just before midnight to be armed and in crisis in the area of Pandora Avenue and Vancouver Street was “no longer in crisis.”

An incident involving a reportedly distraught individual armed with a knife in downtown Victoria was resolved early Monday after hours of crisis negotiation, Victoria police said.

The incident began about 6:15 p.m. Sunday with reports that an individual armed with a knife was making concerning remarks and stabbing the ground in the area of Pandora Avenue and Vancouver Street.

The area was blocked off with yellow tape and police cars for several hours and nearby businesses were partially evacuated as officers responded.

Police said just before 1:30 a.m. the person was “no longer in crisis.” The distraught individual was put in contact with supports and the scene was cleared, police said.
