A Duncan man was arrested on drug charges after an investigation sparked by a report of shooting between the occupants of two vehicles.

The vehicle-to-vehicle shooting was called in by several people on Oct. 3 near the intersection of Trunk Road and Canada Avenue.

Officers determined the shooting was an isolated incident related to drug activity, and during their investigation obtained search warrants on two vehicles, a residence and a storage locker.

The searches led to the seizure of a considerable amount of drugs, including cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and several hundred prescription pills.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and remains in custody on unrelated matters.

“We don’t expect to have shooting incidents like this in our community and thank goodness it rarely happens,” said Staff Sgt. Aaron Jabs of North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.

He praised officers’ work on the case.
