Fire investigators will be trying to determine the cause of a blaze that took the life of a Parksville man on Monday.
Parksville and Qualicum Beach Fire Chief Marc Norris said neighbours called 911 just before 10 a.m. to report smoke coming from a house on Phillips Street.
“When we arrived we had some smoke coming from the structure and no visible flame,” Norris said.
When fire crews entered the house, they found a man in the main living area where fire had broken out.
The man was removed from the house and placed in the care of B.C. Ambulance paramedics, Norris said. The man’s next of kin have been notified, he said.
No one else was in the home at the time.
Twenty-four firefighters from Parksville and Qualicum Beach were at the scene. It took just a few minutes for crews to control the fire.
Fire and police investigators and the coroner are scheduled to go in the house this morning.
