Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a report of a male wearing what looked like a gas mask trying to climb onto the second-floor deck of a residence in Union Bay.

The homeowner reported the incident to police about 10:10 p.m. Saturday, saying she heard a loud banging on the side of her house and saw the male when she stepped out onto the deck.

She said he was trying to reach the portion of the deck where she was standing, so she retreated inside and called 911.

Officers and a police dog were deployed but did not locate a suspect despite extensive efforts, including a forensic examination of the scene.

Residents in the area of the 5500-block of Seventh Street in Union Bay are asked to review surveillance systems, doorbell cameras and dashcams for any unusual activity around the time of the incident.

RCMP ask anyone with information to contact them at 250-338-1321 with any information.
