Travellers hoping to get a jump start on the August long weekend are already facing waits at the borders and ferry terminals.

Traffic reports say waits were between 20 and 30 minutes at the Peach Arch, Pacific Highway and Sumas border crossings by mid-morning.

Also by 7:30 a.m., there was already a one-car wait from Tsawwassen to Duke Point and to the Gulf Islands. At 1 p.m. there was a one-sailing car wait at Swartz Bay. There are also sailing waits from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay and to Langdale. Even foot passengers are being warned of the high traffic volumes. Yes, they do sometimes get turned away if there are too many passengers. For current conditions, visit: http://www.bcferries.com

Meanwhile, although there’s rain in the forecast for Metro Vancouver today, the rest of the long weekend looks sunny.

Environment Canada says a mix of sun and cloud is expected on Saturday, with a 30 per cent chance of rain in the morning. Then, it looks like the weather will clear up in the afternoon.

The federal weather agency predicts plenty of sunshine for Sunday and Monday with highs between 23 and 24 C.
