The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit has been called in to help investigate a suspected homicide in Lake Cowichan.

The body of Tavis Cragg, who had been reported missing from Nanaimo on Tuesday, was found the same day by Lake Cowichan RCMP after they went to a residence about 11 p.m. in the 7900-block of Cowichan Lake Road to check for him.

A suspect was arrested and then released.

Police said the investigation remains in its early stages but it’s believed this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to community safety.

No further details were released.
