Man, 56, arrested in Ontario, charged with Victoria murder

A 56-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide two years ago in Victoria, after being arrested in Ontario. George Thurcott was arrested April 8 in Mississauga, Ont.

George Thurcott was arrested April 8 in Mississauga, Ont. by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, in co-operation with the Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police.

A 56-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide two years ago in Victoria, after being arrested in Ontario.

George Thurcott was arrested April 8 in Mississauga, Ont. by the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, in co-operation with the Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police.

He was brought back to Victoria and appeared in court April 11. He remains in custody pending his next court appearance.

About 2:30 p.m. on March 16, 2020, police responded to a multi-unit residential building in the 3000-block of Douglas Street after a report that a man had been assaulted and injured with a weapon.

He was taken to hospital but died March 25, 2020.
