A Victoria man who allegedly drove onto the hood of a Central Saanich police cruiser in late August and attempted to run over a man on Dallas Road last month will remain in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre.

Johnathan Dylan Pocetti, 28, is charged with assaulting a police officer using his car as a weapon, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and causing more than $5,000 in damage to the police car. The offences are alleged to have taken place Aug. 31 in Central Saanich.

Pocetti is also charged with assaulting a person using his car as a weapon, assaulting someone with a golf club and dangerous driving, offences alleged to have taken place on the early morning of Sept. 5 on Dallas Road in Victoria.

Pocetti is charged with threatening behaviour, two counts of driving while prohibited and possession of brass knuckles and an electrically charged cattle prod.

At his bail hearing Tuesday, defence lawyer Tom Morino and Crown prosecutor Patrick Weir argued over whether Pocetti should be released. Evidence at the hearing is protected by a publication ban and cannot be reported.

Pocetti, who is sick with COVID-19, listened to the proceedings from a phone in his jail cell.

In the end, Judge Lisa Mrozinski denied his bail application. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 10.
